CLF attended the 27th ICCA Congress in Madrid – widely regarded as the premier gathering of the international arbitration community – joining approximately 1,300 practitioners from across the globe over four days under the theme International Arbitration: Local, Global or Both?
Senior Associates Dimitrios Andriopoulos and Lito Dokopoulou were among those in attendance, taking in a programme that covered the full breadth of the field – from interstate arbitration as a stabilising force in today’s geopolitical landscape, to sanctions, ESG and the right to regulate, space commerce and the role of AI in shaping the future of the field.
A recurring thread ran through much of the discussion: arbitration’s enduring value lies in the space it occupies between diplomacy and the use of force – effective when political will exists, constrained when it does not.
As ever, one of the highlights was the opportunity to (re)connect with friends and colleagues from across the globe – a reminder of just how much the warmth of this community adds to the richness of the field. Our team returns from Madrid with fresh perspectives and strengthened connections – reinforcing our continued commitment to delivering cutting-edge advice in complex, cross-border disputes.
