1st ICC YOUNG ARBITRATORS FORUM

Associate lawyer to the firm our Associate from Thessaloniki attended the 1^st ICC Young Arbitrators Forum, organized by the Hellenic University of Thessaloniki at 8/4/2016. The presentations and the discussion were centered on the introduction of the rules and operations of the International Court of Arbitration, as well as the practical aspects of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) dispute resolution services.

Mr Alexander Fessas (Managing Counsel of the ICC International Court of Arbitration) analyzed the ICC arbitral proceedings and explained the role of the Secretariat. He referred to the main arbitration rules, emphasizing the criteria taken into account by the arbitral tribunal, in order to render its final award.

Mr. Epaminontas Triantafilou (partner of Quinn Emanuel law firm, based in London) shared some of his experience as a secretary to several international arbitral tribunals and legal assistant to a leading arbitrator. From a practical perspective, he elaborated on the difficulties faced by attorneys, when selecting and proposing an expert to their clients and analyzed the key factors considered in the selection of independent and impartial arbitrators.

The 1^st ICC Young Arbitrators Forum in Thessaloniki was an excellent opportunity for attendants to be introduced to the operations of the International Court of Arbitration. The presentations provided insights on the current issues that arose by the international arbitration practice, while the discussion focused on more practical aspects, such as the necessary qualifications and skills of a young arbitrator.
