Our associate, Eleni Kloukina, attended the 13th Annual Arbitration Conference, organized by AIJA-International Association of Young Lawyers held in Athens, on 14th-16th September 2023. She had the opportunity to meet lawyers from all around the world and attend insightful academic sessions and discussions. The academic sessions focused on takeaways after the Ever Given incident at the Suez Canal regarding the drafting of the force majeure clauses and the risk allocation clauses, how emergency arbitration and interim measures in shipping/transport arbitration disputes are dealt and how the arbitration is the preferred method of dispute resolution for disputes arising in offshore construction projects. The Achmea case and its impacts were thoroughly presented and discussed and how the new technologies in transportation industry require a strong legal framework to deal with all the new challenges from both theoretical and practical perspective.
