Biography

Ioanna N. Vergeti is a Partner at Calavros Law Firm – Filios – Kloukinas and Deputy Head of the firm’s International Arbitration Practice. She joined the firm in 2010 and became Partner in 2019. She is admitted to practice before the Greek Supreme Courts.

Her practice is centered on international commercial arbitration, cross-border disputes, and complex commercial litigation.

Ms Vergeti has acted as counsel in a wide range of international arbitration proceedings, both institutional and ad hoc, involving complex commercial disputes across multiple sectors, including construction, energy, defence, joint venture, distribution and pharmaceutical disputes, often involving multi-jurisdictional elements and diverse procedural and legal frameworks. Her work covers the full lifecycle of arbitral proceedings, from strategic case assessment and jurisdictional objections to interim relief applications, evidentiary hearings, and the management of procedurally demanding multi-party disputes.

A significant part of her practice also concerns the interaction between arbitration and national courts, particularly in matters involving recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards, set-aside proceedings, interim judicial protection, and parallel court proceedings connected with arbitral disputes. She regularly advises on litigation strategy where disputes unfold across more than one jurisdiction.

Alongside her arbitration practice, Ms Vergeti has extensive experience in high-value litigation before the Greek civil courts at all levels of jurisdiction, from the Courts of First Instance to the Greek Supreme Court, as well as in all stages of enforcement proceedings. She regularly represents domestic and international clients in complex commercial and cross-border disputes, including matters raising issues of private international law, across a broad range of commercial sectors.

She advises a diverse client base, including businesses active across the construction, energy, defence, distribution, commercial agency, media, and advertising sectors, as well as multinational corporations, financial institutions, and pharmaceutical companies, combining contentious expertise with strategic commercial judgment.

She is a graduate of the Law School of Democritus University of Thrace and holds an LL.M. from Humboldt University of Berlin.

Ms Vergeti regularly participates in legal conferences in Greece and internationally, both as a speaker and as a participant.
